i picked it up at a bookshop because the cover was blue and the title was honest: 'a history of lighthouses.' that's it. that's the title.

it's full of stories about people who lived alone on rocks for years and kept a small flame burning through storms. it is, i think, a good metaphor for a lot of things, but mostly it is just a nice book to read in bed.
